I used  a map developed by the Guardian Data Blog showing school league tables with a heat map I did showing income deprivation. The aim is to give a more contextualised…See More

Localism and the web: a new era for democracy?

copy  of original article posted on Opendemocracy.net 12 February 2011. Local democracy in England is in a troubled state. Swingeing cuts to local government, voter apathy and declining civic involvement all suggest a parlous state of affairs and with no let up in the economic gloom, the prospect of double dip recession threatens to sideline every other issue. That…See More

What brings you to Our Society?
I want to connect with people outside government and share ideas and initiatives without getting stuck on political issues such as 'is Big Society all about cuts'? I just want to get on and do something useful.

Hello Gavin & welcome to Our Society!

You can read a bit more about Our Society and what we hope to achieve by having a read of Our Purpose and our About Us page.

As a quick way to get the ball rolling, why not read our Getting Started info, and please take a moment to tell us a bit about yourself in the "Who are you?" thread. We really love to hear any ideas you have for how we can develop Our Society, which you can post on our uservoice page, as well as vote on ideas posted by others. It would also be really helpful if you could upload a profile picture - so much nicer to have a face to put to the name!

This network is constantly being developed so we'd very much appreciate any comments or suggestions that you have. I've set up a Feedback Forum for any ideas or problems that you encounter.

Thanks again for joining, please contact me if you have any problems, and do feel free to set up your own group or discussion - I'm happy to assist with either.

~Sophie
