A rant on personal fulfilment

Posted on June 19, 2012 at 14:02 4 Comments

I haven’t listened to Radio 5 Live’s morning phone in for quite a while. I gave in after one too many occasions on which it seemed simply to be inviting bigots to air their views in public.

I tuned in this morning however, and, to be honest, it hadn’t changed very much. However, one call really made me think, but probably not in the way the caller intended. The caller said this…. “.. What with the Jubilee, the Olympics and Euro 2012, this is the best year of our lives”.

I was…

Our Society - The Future (does it have one?)

Posted on June 16, 2012 at 15:00 69 Comments

I think the time has come to debate the future of Our Society, and, even ask the question "does it have one?".

Just to remind people of why we started all this; here is our purpose http://oursociety.org.uk/page/our-purpose. Our Society grew out of Big Society in the North, which was established both to argue for an alternative vision to the Government's Big Society agenda, and to help those people-led organisations struggling to…

#twicket, community, and social capital

Sorry I've been a bit quiet on the Our Society front lately. This post is about #twicket, which is one of the reasons I haven't been here much lately.

I am not going to tell the full story of #twicket, as I have documented it all, in quite some detail here http://wp.me/ppLRZ-dH. If you don't know what #twicket is, then the rest of this post may not make much sense to you, so I suggest you read that post first, or listen to…

What goes on in "That London"?

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 10:58 2 Comments

Most people will be aware that Our Society grew out of an earlier network called "Big Society in the North" which was formed partly because of a feeling that thinking on the Big Society was being driven by London-based individuals and organisations who did not fully realise the impact of their actions and pronouncements on communities in northern England. One of the reasons why Big Society in the North evolved into Our Society was that we soon found that feeling was not confined to the…

Thanks John for welcoming me. I don't know about "the" perspective from the Netherlands. I can tell you I am really ingested in the concept of the big and our society. Because there's not to much noise about these concepts in the netherlands, I'm studieing publications and analysis from the UK In particular. If I can comment, I will!

Thanks,

Bye

Hi John & welcome to Our Society!

This network is in the early stages of development so we'd very much appreciate any comments or suggestions that you have. I've set up a Feedback Forum for this, so please do share your thoughts there.

You can read a bit more about Our Society and what we hope to achieve by having a read of our About Us page.

As a quick way to get the ball rolling, please feel free to say hello and tell us a bit about yourself in the "Who are you?" thread.

Thanks again for joining, please contact me if you have any problems, and do feel free to set up your own group or discussion - I'm happy to assist with either.

Hi John - thanks for the invitation, much appreciated, and sure the space will prove a very interesting one through which to make like-minded connections. A few things of our own are due to go live over the coming week that are liable to be of interest...so, will be sure to post further details in due course! Annemarie
